Today’s fast pace lifestyle presents many challenges to women. What if that woman is a diabetic? Now, that woman has the added responsibility of managing her diabetes at every moment of her life. This added stress can often have a negative impact on blood glucose levels which leads to complications such as frequent urinary tract infections, vaginal dryness, heart disease, vision problems etc. According to the American Diabetes Association, 11.5 million, or 10.2% of all women aged 20 years old or older have diabetes, although nearly one quarter of them do not know it. Colon and rectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women in the United States (second only to lung cancer). Colon cancer deaths are more frequent than death from breast cancer. So why aren’t women being given life-saving screenings? The risk of being diagnosed with colon cancer in one’s lifetime approaches 5% and one in three people diagnosed with the disease will die from it. Although colon cancer can have devastating effects on one’s life expectancy, it also potentially requires painful surgery, arduous chemotherapy, necessity of a fecal bag, or loss of fecal continence. In searching for Mr. Right, I am often asked, “Where Can I Find Him?” Many women do not enjoy going to bars and feel like a fish out of water when they do go. Other people think they are too busy to look. First of all, you can find him anywhere doing what you already do. This works best when you are living your life from a place of presence and joy. When you are happy with yourself, and your life, you will attract and be drawn to others who are also happy with themselves and their life. You connect without even trying by just being open. Of course, you must believe this is possible. However, it is helpful to have a little more guidance, so I offer you the following. Urinary incontinence is a hidden epidemic that consumes billions of dollars in health care expenditures annually. Defined as the involuntary leakage of urine, incontinence is more common among women than men. Unfortunately, fewer than 50% of women affected by incontinence seek treatment. There are several different types of urinary incontinence: stress incontinence (SUI) is urinary leakage that occurs with coughing, sneezing or engaging in any activity; urge incontinence (UI) is urinary leakage that occurs with a sudden uncontrollable urge to urinate; both forms can coexist. Overflow incontinence typically occurs with the inability to completely empty ones bladder which results in continued filling and subsequent leakage.
