Laughter – One of the Best Stress Reducers

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the July 11th, 2009

I don’t usually share funny stories here but I think this one is worth sharing and it’s too long to write in Facebook. So we start from the premise that laughter is one of the best stress reducers ever. And, another thing that I have learned is that we need to give our inner child the rein occasionally because if we don’t she or he will break free when you least expect it and cause utter havoc. You can’t just put him or her in a closet and expect to never hear from them again. Children don’t have eternal patience and neither do your inner children.

So having learned from my father and grandfather how to safely let my inner child go free and that stress is a great way to keep things mellow I occasionally create funny situations in my home. My husband thank goodness shares my humor.

So for the funny story. My husband was getting ready to go out, putting on his sneakers, in fact. There was a pile of change on the dining room table and when he wasn’t looking I put it in his sneaker. Now normally this would be pretty funny when he put his foot in the sneaker but nothing happened. He laced up and stood to leave. Meanwhile I am on the deck viewing this and beginning to burst with laughter. Having known me for years he understand the signs and knows I did something.
He finally realizes that his foot doesn’t fit quite right and knows what I have done. We are now hysterically laughing. This little trick provided more laughter then I had anticipated.

So you say, I’m not laughing here. Guess this must be one of those locations jokes. If you don’t walk away laughing I hope this will serve to give you permission to bring a little silliness and laughter into your home during a time when many of us need it.

Visitors could savor the experience over a week-long “road trip” or just spend a day exploring the different wineries and dairy farms in one area of the state. Here’s a sampling of what New Hampshire has to offer:

Near Seacoast – The largest and oldest wineries in the state are located near the coast, where grapes thrive from the milder temperatures and longer growing season
o Candia Vineyards, Candia – One of New England’s most-awarded boutique vineyards
o Zorvino Vineyards, Sandown – Wine made here from grapes grown on 80 acres of land
o Jewell Towne Vineyards, South Hampton – On the shores of the scenic Powow River

Valley Vineyards, Orchards & Dairies – Moving up and down the western border of the state, visitors can feel the history, rich agricultural traditions and striking beauty of the Connecticut River Valley
o Boggy Meadow Cheese Plant, Walpole (Monadnock Region) – Where they transform raw milk from a dairy herd of Holsteins into sumptuous cheese from old Alpine recipes
o Silver Mountain Farms, Lempster (Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region) – They make traditional hard cider and all-natural fruit wines; open year-round for tours & tastings
o Landaff Creamery, Landaff (White Mountains) – Small, unique farmstead cheese creamery producing Landaff Cheese from a traditional Welsh recipe

Merrimack Valley – Located in the heart of New Hampshire, Manchester serves as a gateway to the Merrimack Valley and Lakes Region:
o La Belle Winery, Amherst – Award-winning boutique winery transforming local fruit into spectacular wine
o The Black Dog Vineyard, Salisbury – Up-and-coming winery opening in 2010
o Stone Gate Vineyard, Gilford – Produces wine from native and French cold climate grapes

Per Elizabeth Taylor – I’ve been asked to speak at the Staples Center. I cannot be part of the public whoopla. And I cannot guarantee that I would be coherent to say a word. I just don’t believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others. How I feel is between us. Not a public event. I said I wouldn’t go to the Staples Center and I certainly don’t want to become a part of it. I love him too much. My love goes out to Katherine and Michael’s beloved children.

Katie Couric – Talked to a mother and daughter from dallas given tix after biz man saw them on TV. The kindness of strangers… Jeff Glor: Staples Center Sneak Peak http://bit.ly/BlDJs

Bringing Sunshine to a Gloomy Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Administrator on the July 1st, 2009

I’ve been really trying to figure out how to keep my spirits up with all this gloomy weather. It’s bad enough for normal people but I’m one of the Seasonal Affective Disorder people. So when the sun isn’t out my energy and mood are pretty low. Yesterday was a serious chocolate crisis day. When I got up this morning to another rainy day I decided that I needed to try something else before I blow up into a balloon and float away (Wait a minute maybe I could float above the clouds).

I decided this morning that I needed to start focusing on the little things that brought a smile or laugh. For instance – My miniature dachshund eats to quickly. We mentioned this to our vet who advised us to buy this plastic dispenser that forces him to take more time to eat. So this morning I decided to try him at it. It’s a giant (almost half his size) purple plastic egg that screws together with the food in the middle and two holes on either side. It was so funny to watch him batty it around. At one point he managed to pick it up in his teeth by the lip of one side and throw it. Definitely took longer for him to get his food down and was a hoot to watch.

So I guess this bad weather has made it possible for me to enjoy the little things in life that I would have rushed through. Not too shabby.
